Privacy Policy
Overview
OpenFinz (“we”, “the app”) is a local-first personal finance tracker available at www.openfinz.com. This policy explains what information is processed when you use the website and web app.
Financial data on your device
Accounts, categories, transactions, budgets, exchange rates, and related settings are stored locally in your browser (IndexedDB). We do not operate a server that receives or stores your balances or transaction history by default.
If you clear site data, uninstall the PWA, or wipe data in Settings, that local information may be permanently lost unless you have a backup.
Optional Google Drive backup
If you choose Sign in with Google in Settings, OpenFinz requests access to your Google account’s Drive App Data folder (and basic profile info such as email) so you can manually back up or restore a JSON file that Google stores in a hidden app folder associated with your account.
That backup is stored under your Google account. We do not receive a copy of the backup on an OpenFinz backend. You can disconnect Google and revoke access anytime in Google Account permissions or in Settings.
Analytics
The production website may use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate traffic (for example page views and basic events such as connecting Google Drive backup). Analytics is configured with IP anonymization where supported. Analytics identifiers are not used to sell personal data or show third-party ads.
Cookies and local storage
The app uses browser storage (IndexedDB / local storage / session storage) to run the product. Session storage may temporarily hold a Google access token while you are signed in for Drive backup. Google and analytics providers may set their own cookies subject to their policies.
Third-party services
- Google (Sign-In, Drive App Data, Analytics) — Google Privacy Policy
- Exchange-rate APIs used only to fetch market rates when you refresh rates (no account data is sent)
- Hosting providers that serve the static web app (for example Vercel)
Children
OpenFinz is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the service after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
